MARINE DAVIT CRANES
Patterson Davit Cranes were designed from the ground up for ease of use, durability, and reliability. As water environment experts with over 160 years of experience designing and manufacturing lifting equipment for the marine industry, we incorporated the highest quality components and finishes. From the corrosion-resistant, fully galvanized body to the industry-leading brake mechanism, we build each davit to withstand harsh saltwater environments and ensure safety and reliability for the entire life of the crane. Our davits are available in ½-Ton and 1-Ton models, and we offer various customizations and accessories to meet the specifications of your operations.
How are davit cranes used in a marine environment?
Most vessels and dock locations require regular loading and unloading of various supplies. Davit cranes offer a compact, cost-effective solution that can be left in place or moved between locations for quick and easy handling of materials, small boats, hoses, or anything else that needs to be picked up.
How does Patterson ensure that its davit cranes will hold up in harsh outdoor environments?
Patterson Davit Cranes are 100% hot-dipped galvanized and use stainless steel hardware to last for decades in corrosive environments, including when mounted near or above fluid tanks, on river and ocean-going vessels, or in any other environment where superior corrosion resistance is necessary.
Corrosion Packages + Special Finishes
Hot-Dipped Galvanized
This finish ensures that there is no concern of scratched paint or flaking powder coats on the body, which can lead to corrosion and eventually failure. It coats and protects both the outside and the inside of the crane components to prevent rust and corrosion, even in wet or saltwater environments.
Steel Sheaves
Steel, in place of plastic, offers significantly longer life and extended duty cycles between replacements.

Why is hot-dip galvanizing superior to paint or powder coating for corrosion resistance on marine equipment?
Hot-dip galvanizing is superior to other surface applications for a variety of reasons. Because the coating process involves fully submerging the parts in molten zinc, all surfaces of the part, both external and internal, are completely coated. The same level of consistency is not possible with sprayed-on paints or powder coats when being applied to crane towers and booms. In addition, because the zinc applied in the galvanizing process bonds with the part surface through a metallurgical reaction, it offers superior adhesion to any other coating application, literally becoming part of the product.
Crane Customizations + Accessories
Additional Mounting Bases
We offer standard pedestal, flush-mount, and wall-mount bases, enabling you to use one crane in a variety of locations and for a variety of applications. Designed for portability, Patterson’s Davit Crane can be quickly and easily disassembled and re-located, expanding the coverage of a single piece of equipment and saving upfront costs.
Extended Booms
With the Extended Boom, the Patterson Davit Crane can lift large items and pieces of equipment without risk of scraping the side of the boat or dock. The boom angle can be adjusted to nearly 45 degrees to allow for clearance over handrails and other obstructions. For situations that call for additional reach beyond standard specifications, our experienced engineers can make design adjustments to meet the needs of your operation.
Magnet Attachment
Add a Magnet Attachment to your davit crane build to safely lift large metal objects and equipment with ease. Currently available in capacities for lifting up to 2,000 pounds, this attachment adds versatility for marine applications, whether it be on a deck, on a dock, or at a shop or warehouse.
How are davit cranes used in a Barge Haul System?
In locations where the barge being loaded or unloaded is below the operation platform, davit cranes provide an easy solution for lifting and lowering rigging, guidelines, and any other items that need to be raised from or lowered to the deck of the barge or boat.
